Bolivian Women Empower Themselves Through Skateboarding

Huara Medina Montaño, a graphic designer and member of the ImillaSkate collective, proudly embraces her Bolivian cultural roots as a descendant of the Indigenous Quechua people.

Medina Montaño finds joy in expressing herself through skateboarding and feels empowered to do so.

The ImillaSkate collective of nine women aims to promote cultural identity and inclusion through skateboarding.

The group challenges the stereotype of the traditional “woman in a skirt” by showing that women, regardless of their appearance or dress, can be successful skateboarders.

ImillaSkate hopes to inspire other women to believe in their abilities and pursue their passions by embracing their identities and breaking stereotypes.
