In his latest video, MrBeast (real name Jimmy Donaldson) announced that he is sponsoring cataract surgeries for 1,000 people who could not afford the procedure.

The video, which has already reached over 32 million views, features touching before and after footage of patients who had their cataracts removed.

In addition to the surgeries, MrBeast gave some participants cash donations and other gifts.

MrBeast worked with ophthalmologist and surgeon Jeff Levenson and performed the first round of surgeries.

The event took place in Jacksonville, Florida โ€“ USA.

Jeff Levenson has been running the โ€œGift of Sightโ€ program for over 20 years.

The program provides free cataract surgeries for uninsured patients who are legally blind due to cataracts.

Levenson was inspired to help others access cataract surgery after his correction surgery.

Jeff Levenson explained that half of all blindness worldwide is caused by cataracts, which can be cured with a 10-minute surgery.

Levenson and MrBeastโ€™s team reached out to homeless shelters and free clinics to create a list of patients needing cataract surgery in the Jacksonville area.

Then, in a single day, Levenson performed all 40 surgeries, starting at 7 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m.

The ophthalmologist also connected MrBeastโ€™s team with SEE International, a non-profit organization providing free eye care to needy patients.

With their help, MrBeast completed 1,000 surgeries in countries such as Jamaica, Honduras, Namibia, Mexico, Indonesia, Brazil, Vietnam, and Kenya.

Levenson hopes that the video and MrBeastโ€™s generosity will inspire a concerted effort to end needless blindness.

He believes that with support from governments and private organizations, it is possible to cure half of all blindness in the world at a low cost, with incredible gains in human productivity and potential.
